I have been using Sculptra in my practice for over 10 years, and can confidently say, that Sculptra is one of my favorite, and consistently most gratifying procedures at my office, with very high patient satisfaction across the board.
What is Sculptra? Sculptra is an FDA approved injectable, which gradually simulates collagen production in the skin, resulting in significant restoration of volume in the face. I can also be used in other parts of the body such as chest, neck, buttocks. It can improve fine lines and wrinkles, as well as the future development of additional ones. In this, Sculptra is quite different from other hyaluronic acid fillers such as, Restylane or Juvederm, which I also regularly use in my practice though to achieve different ends. These fillers are liquid or gel substances, and immediately fill lines and wrinkles, by being directly injected into the face to lift push up the dermis beneath wrinkles, diminishing creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months. Sculptra, is different, it's a Collagen stimulator, and is used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the course of several treatments (typically two to three injections over a period of three to four months) and last up to two years. With and FDA duration of 2 years, Sculptra is the longest lasting filler in the market.
Sculptra (or poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)) has been using anesthetic and non-distended uses in the United States since 1990s. It has been around longer than most other fillers, and has a long and establish safety profile. In trained hands, it has been proven to be extremely effective in addressing age-related facial atrophy, diminishing wrinkles, and bringing back beautiful proportions to balanced the face. Its gradual, long-lasting results is favored by patients who prefer natural longer lasting results and are concerned about looking “overdone”. This product is best suited for patients who aren’t unnaturally sculpted, angular faces, or puffy cheeks.
In addition to its use and facial rejuvenation, Sculptra has of late become very popular for use in the rest of the body. Sculptra is now an established and well-recognized treatment option for the neck, improving crepey skin and volume loss, as well as the chest and decollatege, and above the knees and arms. Injecting diluted Sculptra in these areas, which are very difficult to treat with other modalities, can result in significant improvement of skin quality, tightening the skin, while being completely safe. But the most significant growth in use of Sculptra has lately been that of buttock augmentation. Over 2-3 sessions of Sculptra injections in the buttocks, with no down time and no significant pain, a beautiful lift and volume restoration can be achieved without the need for anesthesia, surgery, and associated risks of “Brazilian butt lift” operations. Results are gradual and again long-lasting, and unlike the “bubble butt” of the Kardashian's, the achieved look is usually that of a firmer, toned, and a subtly volumized posterior. Results can be maintained with touchups every couple of years.
After using numerous different fillers over the years, I can tell you without a doubt that my personal favorite “filler” product has always been Sculptra. I use all the fillers in my practice day in and day out, but as one of the top 60 Sculptra injectors in the United States, I can attest to the incredible powers of the beautiful, wonderful Sculptra for rejuvenation of the face and body. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!!
